An excellent set of walks around Chelmsford's fair city

This is a route around Chelmsford passing via Sandon, Chignal Smealey, Galleywood, Writtle, Broomfield and the River Chelmer. The walk will take you past the magnificent New Hall School (originally a convent) which is one of the oldest Catholic schools in England, as well as Hylands House which is a stunning Grade II listed building set in 574 acres of Hylands Park.

The idea was to post chunks of the walk, with maps and photos, to enable walkers more easily to follow the route.
But in the four years since I had the idea, Essex Walks have done it all, much better.
They have an excellent version of The Saffron Trail, too, which I'm working my way through ...

The route was recently "relaunched", though some signing is still inadequate, in my view
